Oktoberfest is Here – Sept. 27-28

Fountain Hills comes alive when Oktoberfest returns to Fountain Park.  Everyone is German for a day, enjoying food, (bratwurst, sauerkraut, potato salad and strudel) music, dancing and family fun.  In addition, genuine Warsteiner beer, wine, water and soft drinks will be available for purchase.

oktoberfest1For many families, this celebration offers an opportunity to share in a traditional German festival that is celebrated at this season all around the world. The Southwest German Society of Fountain Hills coordinates the appearance of the colorful Band, “die echten Wald-Baum” (primed to play ‘The Chicken Dance’ at least every 30 minutes for the ‘kids’ of all ages).  The designated children’s area will have inflatable bouncers and games, and the Dachshund races are hilarious and unpredictable.

oktoberfest2German Music provides the opportunity for revelers to show off their Polka prowess.  Many of the German Society members have elaborate German costumes, and it is a treat to watch their expertise. But the dance floor is large, the music lively, amateur dancers are encouraged, and The Band provides lots of light-hearted moments as well. It can be hard to resist the opportunity to try your luck in the ‘Alpenhorn’ contest and the ever-popular “Chicken Dance.”

This annual celebration is sponsored by the Southwest German Society, the AMVETS Post 7, Fountain Hills Elks Lodge #2846 and the Town of Fountain Hills.
