Golfing

Fountain Hills, Fort McDowell, and the Verdes area are home to the highest concentration of world-class golf courses in Arizona. Known as the Sonoran Desert Golf Trail, there are six of Arizona’s finest public 18-hole courses located on five area golf clubs surrounded by the scenic vistas of the McDowell Mountains and the Tonto National Forest. Designed by some of the most recognized names in golf club design, each course reflects the spirit of its designer and offers a unique blend of challenges to the golfer. Desert Canyon Golf Club

This scenic 6,415-yard, par-71 championship course is known for its narrow fairways and canyons. Signature hole #7 was voted one of Arizona’s best. Fountain Hills’ oldest course, Desert Canyon, hosts a variety of tournaments.

Eagle Mountain Golf Club

Located just a chip shot away from Scottsdale, Arizona, The Golf Club at Eagle Mountain provides golfers with a stunning desert golf experience highlighted by scenic vistas, dramatic elevation changes, and an award-winning course layout. The Scott Miller-designed, 18-hole course (par-71 and 6,800 yards from the back tees) incorporates the property’s natural box canyons and native Sonoran Desert into the design of the golf course.

Sunridge Canyon Golf Club

SunRidge Canyon’s 6,823-yard, par-71, Keith Foster-designed golf course unfolds around the rugged ridges and shady canyons unique to the Sonoran Desert mountains that divide Fountain Hills from Scottsdale, Arizona. This rugged golf course gradually descends on the way out before doubling back to climb up the slope on the way in. This subtle elevation change lies at the heart of a dramatic golf experience.

SunRidge Canyon is the home of the “Wicked Six,” the half dozen holes that are among the most memorable and dramatic closing holes to be found anywhere. Golfers also discover that SunRidge wasn’t so much created by a bulldozer as it was carved out over eons by the relentless pressure of wind and water. Foster had the good sense to follow Mother Nature’s lead, and in the end, the beauty and challenge of SunRidge Canyon is unlike any other desert golf experience in the Valley of the Sun.

This 7,225-yard, par-72 course was featured in the April 2004 Wall Street Journal as one of 12 global courses that are beyond the reach of civilization. We-Ko-Pa is the Yavapai pronunciation for “Four Peaks Mountain.” The course features a 21,000-square-foot clubhouse and dramatic scenic views.

Firerock Country Club (Private)

Apart from the natural beauty of the area, the FireRock Country Club golf course is one of the finest in the state and an incredible pleasure to play. FireRock has it all…elevated tees, raised greens and challenging approach shots. As the course winds around mountain views, each hole presents a unique challenge, governed by its own set of circumstances. No matter how many times you play, there’s always something surprising and new to look forward to as you golf FireRock.
