River of Time Museum & Exploration Center

The River of Time Museum in Fountain Hills recounts the captivating history of the Lower Verde River Valley. Here you’ll trace the steps of ancient people who passed through the Valley following the river for game and water, and learn about the large communities that grew here centuries ago and why they disappeared.

As you pass beneath a shade ramada, you’ll learn how the Yavapai migrated throughout Central Arizona, moving with the seasons and the availability of food. Continue on with explorers and trappers as they travel the river routes. Enter a mine as prospectors look for gold and find amethyst. Learn about Fort McDowell and the struggle to bring peace to the Valley. Then join the “river tamers,” as they build dams and canals. See how “the dam that never was” brought about the development of Fountain Hills.
