Who We Are
The
SCFH is a 501(c)(3) non-profit established to protect and promote the Fountain Hills McDowell Mountain Preserve, Fountain Hills Desert Botanical Garden and Lake Overlook Trail for the benefit of the community. It is a volunteer led organization and has no paid staff. SCFH's work is supported by contributions received from the public.


The primary objectives of the Conservancy are to:

  • support the Town's operational and maintenance priorities
  • provide recreational opportunities to enjoy these natural assets
  • provide educational opportunities to promote the value of these natural assets
  • advocate and take appropriate action to minimize any impact to the Town's natural resources

Easy Pace at Sunrise - Short Sonoran Loop
Are you an early bird looking for an early morning hike that isn't too far, too fast, or too hard? A Steward will lead you down the Sonoran Trail, to the first crossover, to the Lower Sonoran for a 3.3-mile loop. Bring 2 liters of water. No dogs please
Surviving with Plants in the Sonoran Desert

Bernie Finkel will lead an interpretive walk through the Fountain Hills Desert Botanical Garden demonstrating how the Native Americans of the Sonoran Desert used and related to their plants to survive. Bring 1 liter of water. No dogs please.
Moonless Stargazing Hike

SCFH invites you to join Vicky Derksen on this moonless evening to observe the night skies with no interference. After the hike, the Star Dudes will point their telescopes at deep space objects that can't be seen with the naked eye. Bring a red headlamp.

Are you an early bird looking for a morning hike that isn't too far, too fast, or too hard? Then this hike is for you! The hike will follow the Andrew-Kinsey trail for an out and back hike of about 4 miles. Bring 2 liters of water. No dogs please.
