Fountain Hills Theater

Fountain Hills Theater’s story began in the local elementary school’s gymnasium (1986), just 16 years after the iconic World Famous Fountain was built. Naturally, the theater staged classical and contemporary musicals and plays, to bring attention to the art and artists who performed. After being granted 501(c)(3) not-for-profit status in April 1989, more showtimes were added and major productions—like the Arizona Premiers of City of Angels and Tintypes—were performed on-stage.

In 1995, Fountain Hills Theater moved into the building known as the Town’s first library. This one-story structure and tiny stage presented unique challenges, but the theater rose above and produced large, daunting musicals like Fiddler on the Roof and Shenandoah. At this time, the theater became known as ‘The Little Theater That Could’.
In 2002, the theater was given the former Town Community Center. Mainstage was born and many of the theater’s operating spaces (what you see now) were crafted. Generous donations and support throughout the years allowed Fountain Hills Theater to operate and improve production spaces and offer more performances per season. In 2008, Mainstage Too opened, and more productions were added to the theater’s seasonal line up.

Despite its challenges moving from space-to-space and growing in staff, Fountain Hills Theater remains committed to choosing and producing high-quality plays and musicals based on a mix of popular appeal, artistic merit and manageable logistics. The theater is located off of Shea and is close to Scottsdale and Mesa.

• Tickets not paid for by 4pm, 48 hours prior to showtime may be canceled without notice.
