This is a moderate 5.2 mile round trip hike to the historic Dixie Mine in the McDowell Mountain Regional Park. The mine opened in 1877 and mined silver, tin, copper and gold. Only trace amounts of valuable minerals were ever found in the mine. It remained operational until 1977 when the area became known as McDowell Mountain Regional Park.
$5 park entry fee. Bring two liters of water and snacks. Wear a hat & sturdy boots. Hiking poles recommended. No dogs, please.
