Join two experienced experts in the field on a 3 mile, moderate hike from Fraesfield Trailhead in Scottsdale's McDowell Sonoran Preserve. You'll discover the fundamental relationship between geology and ecology and you will see 'on the ground' how changes in geology cause striking changes in local flora. It will give you a new perspective on what you see along the trails.
The hike begins with a moderate climb and continues on rolling terrain. It is expected to take 2.5 hours with multiple stops plus 30 minutes to drive each way to/from Fountain Hills. Carpooling will be available from the Fountain Hills Library/Museum parking lot.
Bring 2 liters of water and snacks; wear a hat and sturdy hiking shoes or boots. Hiking poles recommended. No dogs, please.
