Mornings @ the Museum Speaker Series

Indigenous Baskets - The Art of the Desert People

Join us for the first program of our newest speaker series. Enjoy coffee, light refreshments, and a series of wonderful guest presenters. We will offer a new speaker each month, January through April. There is no cost to attend.

Our first topic, on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at 10:00 AM, is Indigenous Baskets – The Art of the Desert People. This program explores the role baskets and basket weavers play in the art, culture and history of the Southwest Indigenous people. Our speaker is Jerry Cowdrey, Senior Docent at the Heard Museum and avid basket collector.

Jerry’s basket collection was recently featured in an exhibit at the Desert Caballeros Museum in Wickenburg. Participants at this event will learn about basket construction, types of baskets and the relationship of basket making to the natural environment of the desert. Jerry will share a variety of baskets representing the Indigenous cultures of the Southwest.

All are welcome to attend. Registration is encouraged but not required. For questions and registration please call the River of Time Museum and Exploration Center at 480-837-2612. Click here for more programs offered by the Museum. https://www.riveroftime.center/calendar/
