Mornings @ the Museum Speaker Series: The Specialness of the Birds of the Sonoran Desert

On Saturday, April 18 Pete Herstein will present The Specialness of the Birds of the Sonoran Desert, an entertaining program highlighting what makes the birds found in the Sonoran Desert unique. The important role of desert plants, especially Saguaro Cactus will be examined. You’ll be amazed at the variety of birds you can find in our area and Pete will provide guidance and tips on how to spot them by sight and by sound.

Pete Herstein has been an avid bird watcher for more than 30 years. After a 40-year career as a physicist at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, R.I., he and his wife Beverly purchased a condominium in Fountain Hills. He has been actively birding throughout Arizona and to date has sighted hundreds of bird species in the Grand Canyon state.

He is a member of the Sonoran Audubon Association, the Maricopa Audubon Association, Arizona Field Ornithologists. and the Ocean State (RI). He is a naturalist for the Sonoran Conservancy of Fountain Hills and the Fountain Hills Desert Botanical Garden where he leads birding hikes both in the Garden and at Fountain Lake Park.
